CIE (CORAZONES QUE GOLPEAN EN LA PARED COMO UNA LLAMA) (2023)
Action of crashing the chest against the wall of the CENTER FOR INTERNMENT OF FOREIGNERS (CIE) located in Carabanchel, Madrid. The CIE is a prison where foreigners in an "irregular situation" are deprived of their liberty to process their expulsion from the territory. There are currently 8 centers in Spain, but it is a repressive mechanism that extends throughout the European Union.
The work is a dialogue with an excerpt from the poem "There are free voices", part of the book "Andando, andando por el mundo" by the poet Emilio Prados.
“There are free voices
and voices with chains
and there are words that melt when colliding with the air
and hearts that beat on the wall like a flame.
there are limits
and there are bodies.”
The abolition of the CIE and its restitution by a memory center is demanded, since adjacent to these racist prison facilities, the Carabanchel prison lay before its demolition, one of the symbolic places of the systematic murders carried out by the Franco regime.
